Candy Cane

Music by Jonathan Lea and Lyric by Dennis Davison

‘Twas the night before you know when

I got to thinking ‘bout you again

and all the Christmases you destroyed

your napalm temper deployed, recall

ill cheer to all

The stockings, they were hung with much care

though you rejected them with such flare

Nothing sweetened your sour mood

one giant step beyond rude

Your charm is catching on

So go and break your candy cane

I don’t think it’ll snow, I forecast rain

Christmas morning, basic black

The grip reaper of yuletide cheer is back

Never studied Christian faith

Didn’t go to church one day

Still I’m saddled once a year

burdened with no clear way out

I’m filled with doubt

So dim the star atop the tree

Don’t save any of your good will for me

String the lights around your neck

I think that it would be a fine effect

Fly the angel at half-mast

I feel holiday blues approaching fast

Do Wah Diddy, Do-Wacka-Do

You couldn’t tell the difference

so you’ll pay until he’s through

This day is ruined, forevermore

so live with the damage

it can never be restored

‘Twas the day after you know when

The worst day of the year gone again

You blew this one just like the last

The ghost of Christmases past will rest

until the next

So throw away your candy cane

I don’t think it’ll snow, I forecast rain

Christmas morning, basic black

The grip reaper of yuletide cheer is back

Dim the star atop the tree

Don’t save any of your good will for me

Fly the angel at half-mast

I feel holiday blues approaching fast
